Renovated And Extended Townhouse With Arched Doors And Windows

In their search for a quiet little place to call home, a young couple settled on an old triplex from Brooklyn. It’s a fairly small townhouse built back in the 1860s. They worked with studio BAAO (Barker Associates Architecture Office) to give this place a makeover and to turn it into a charming retreat.

The couple travels a lot on business so they wanted this place to truly feel like a sanctuary, a relaxing and tranquil place where they can hide away from the world. As it turns, out, an old house was just right for their needs.

The townhouse was however a bit too small so it had to be expanded. The architects added a three-story extension which adds more living spaces to the already existing layout along with a series of other rooms. The common areas are clustered on the ground floor for easy accessibility and convenience. The second floor of the house consists of a stylish master suite with access to a balcony, a library and a home office. The third floor of the extension is dedicated to guests, kids and caretakers.

The house was renovated and transformed to suit its owners’ current needs but also with a vision for the future. As such, the designers went with a fairly simple and classic aesthetic, without too many style-specific details which would cause the house to quickly become outdated. They used timeless materials such as marble and wood to give this place an elegant look and feel and they also preserved a lot of the beautiful original features such as the arched doorways and the windows that make this house stand out.
