The Z House, another spectacular contemporary home in Bellevue Hill

After bringing to your attention the N House and the R House, both located in the Bellevue Hill area of Sydney, Australia, we’re now focusing on another spectacular creation of the same architect. This is the Z House. It’s located in the same area and was designed by Bruce Stafford Architects in collaboration with interior designer Shellee Gordoun. As you can see, the residence has a strong contemporary feel. It was designed for a family so its structure had to come as a response to the client’s request for private, tranquil spaces where each family member can enjoy a quiet time.

The goal of the design was to focus on the wellbeing of all family members. This meant that the architects has to think in perspective, to envision the big picture while also thinking at all the individual details related to each member of the family. The result was a beautiful contemporary residence, a quiet and peaceful environment with lots of natural light and where the indoor-outdoor connection is strong and rewarding. The residence features courtyards, skylights, glazed openings and a beautiful garden and this allows the rooms to open onto the exterior and the light to enter the home.

The internal structure is functional and simple. The double height areas connect the spaces but also allow them to maintain their privacy. The main volume is the largest and most imposing one. It provides a sort of protective anchor for the other lighter elements of the design. One of the volumes is a timber box-like structure is separated by the adjacent volume and its curved concrete wall by a glass light well that extends through the center of the residence. The cocoon-like structure is a volume designed for the children and it’s a place where they can rest, relax and play.
