Most modern residences are unique and eye-catching, whether it’s because of their exterior design or shape or because they have glamorous interiors. In the case of this residence, what makes it stand out is the simplicity and elegance of the design. Located in Perth, Australia, this structure is known as the Breust Residence. It was designed and built by JUO and it can be found on a narrow site in Bicton.
The residence has a design based on contrasts and balance. If you take a few seconds to analyze it, you’ll see that the designers chose to use a variety of materials, some of which contrast with the others, along with eye-catching forms. The result was a striking and stylish residence.
The two-storey residence impresses with its odd structure. First of all, what catches your eye when entering the property is the timber clad structure. It contains a large garage. Then, as you approach the entrance, you’ll notice a concrete box-like structure which frames the first floor volume. The main residence features two concrete pavilions. They are connected by a glass volume. Here you’ll find the living area and a beautiful exterior terrace. The interior is very bright as the architects paid special attention to the orientation of the volumes.
The pavilions also offer beautiful views of the garden. In between the two pavilions there is a two-storey volume which contains the main living area. This space has glass walls on either side and views of the gardens and the pool. This allows the living room to feel open and to establish a strong connection with the outdoors.
Moreover, this layout and structure were not designed to be just striking and to offer beautiful views. It was also a choice based on functionality. The design allows for natural cross ventilation to cool the space and eliminates the need for air conditioning.
