The New Forest National Park House by John Pardey Architects

Located in Boldre, United Kingdom, this house by John Pardey Achitects sits within the New Forest National Park that was established in 2006. You might wonder how the owners managed to build a house on that area. It turned out that “the architectural quality of the proposal development and its suitability for the site would insure that it would make a more positive contribution to the character and appearance of the area”. Great news for the owners.

The idea at the base of this project was to build a holyday home that would allow the owners to be in contact with nature. They wanted privacy and something that would look and feel completely different than their day to day urban life. So the new house was designed as a light, open and easy to maintain structure.

The owners really wanted some privacy so the master bedroom is situated far away from the bedrooms of their two teenage children. There’s a single social space for cooking, eating and relaxing but it’s enough during summer and holydays. The house has a very simple look, it’s modern and very functional. In terms of materials, they used laminated timber wood for the floor, walls and roof panels made from KLH timber.

The windows were pre-ordered so the process was quick and easy. They used rigid external insulation and the roof is actually a single ply membrane. It’s a very nice and pleasant holyday home, perfect for a small family. It allows privacy, intimacy and it’s a great place for relaxation and interaction with the other members of the family.
