The Chef’s Table Restaurant Design by Buensalido Architects

This is the Chef’s Table. The name is rather deceiving because this is in fact a restaurant. It was a project by Buensalido Architects and it’s located in Fort Global City, Taguig City, Philippines. The restaurant measures 250 square meters and it is owned by celebrity Chef Bruce Lim. The project was completed in 2010.

Bruce Lim is a renowned chef who hosts world-renowned TV cooking shows and consults for numerous food companies. He is known for his ability to take local dishes, recipies and ingredients and give them a surprising but delicious twist. In order to make it clear who owns this place, the restaurant got the name that it has now. As opposed to the typical restaurants where the kitchen is usually in the back, separated by giant doors, in this case the kitchen is an open space and it’s the first thing that guests see when they enter.

With the kitchen in the center of the restaurant, the chef becomes the star. Because the space where the restaurant has been created has a mezzanine level, making the chef visible from the portions of the upper level was a challenge. In order to solve that problem, the architects created a massive triangulated drop ceiling juts down from the slab and a giant reflective surface. This makes the kitchen and the chef visible from every little space of the restaurant.{found on archdaily}
