The Art Barn – A Gorgeous Aspen House And A Gallery For Contemporary Art
The Art Barn is a very special project which was completed by studio Rowland+Broughton Architecture in 2018. It’s a beautiful and modern house but also a place where contemporary art is displayed and where various events take place occasionally.
The structure is situated at the edge of the mountainside in Aspen, United States. The site has a steep slope which in this case means the house gets to enjoy some really amazing views. The front facade overlooks a meadow while the rear one frames gorgeous views of the Aspen. The exterior of the building is very simple and mysterious, with a gable roof, few openings at the front but large windows at the back. This way it brings the outdoors in and takes advantage of all the beauty surrounding it but also maintains a nice level of privacy.
The interior is also very simple. It makes use of a soothing palette of natural materials, namely wood and stone. The colors are also well balanced, ranging between classic neutrals such as white, black and gray to warm and earthy colors as well as a few more vibrant accent shades. The living room is a flexible space. The furniture in here can be very easily removed or rearranged for various events or large dinner parties. Another gorgeous area is a space designed to look very much like an authentic Japanese tea room. It’s furnished with a big live edge table and a set of pebble-shaped poufs and it has access to a beautifully-landscaped garden. The other notable spaces inside the Art Barn include two gallery spaces where various art pieces and installations can be displayed.
