This is the 25Hours Hotel HafenCity, a beautiful development located in Hamburg, Germany. The interior design was a project by Stephen Williams Associates. HafenCity is the largest development project in Europe that was built in the 21st century. This impressive project basically reinvented Hamburg’s old harbor quarter turning it into an urban development featuring shops and the world-class Herzog & de Meuron-designed Elbe Philharmonic Hall.

The hotel was inspired by the rich maritime history in the area. It features 170 cabin-style suites as well as a rooftop sauna, a restaurant, a bar, an art gallery, a private wharf and a conference room. Each hotel of the 25hours Hotel Company is an expression of its location and this is no exception. This particular hotel was inspired by 25 personal chronicled that have been collected by storyteller Markus Stoll and that have been gathered in a “ship logbook” in each cabin.

The ground floor of the hotel is an image of the contemporary harbor. It features old import/export crates, timber planks, and stacks of oriental carpets scattered like the detritus of a shipping warehouse. There’s also a bar for guests. This is definitely an interesting approach to the traditional design of the hotel. It seems chaotic at first but in fact it’s a very inviting and charming place. The cabins are cozy and beautiful.
