Swiss Army Building Converted Into A Modern Alpine Home

There once was an old arsenal building, constructed during the Second World War. Back then, it was used to store weapons and ammunition. Then decades later, B47 became a privately owned structure. Ralph German architectes was in charge of the transformation.

The architects wanted to preserve the character of the building intact and they succeeded. The roof, the patina of the walls and several historic details such as the wall sign were preserved. The strategy used included building 2 cubes within the building.

One of the cubes is made of glass. The space inside measures 49 square meters. A second cube, this time made of wood, was added inside. The kitchen, the dining area, a small living room and the bedroom were arranged around it.

The wooden cube itself contains some kitchen storage, a Murphy bed and some bookshelves and a half bath. There are no other hidden spaces in this micro house but, although it’s tiny and includes all these functions, the interior doesn’t feel cramped or uninviting.

The team used clean, pure lines when designing the interior. The design is, above all, functional and light and space play important role in the overall look.

Unexpected touches of color offer the house a really dynamic and vibrant look. The tiny bathroom was painted hot pink. The same hue was used as an accent color for the bedroom. In the living room and dining area, green is the color that complements the neutral décor.

Double doors open to connect the cabin to its beautiful surroundings. The alpine views can be admired from the dining room but also from other parts of the house, through large windows and they turn this historic structure into a perfect getaway.
