A Stylish Contemporary House In Rural Australia Boasts A Black and White Palette

This gorgeous Australian house occupies a small plateau in the Hepburn Springs resort town. It serves as a second home and a cozy retreat and it has a very interesting design. Upon reaching the beautiful, semi-rural site it becomes immediately apparent that the house is composed of two very different sections.

One is the main volume which has a gabled roof, large glazed sections and is entirely clad in slate shingles. The other is a smaller, plain white volume with a rectangular shape and a flat roof. They serve different purposes and they each have their own unique style and look. The house in its entirely was designed and built by architecture office Telha Clarke.

The two volumes are positioned perpendicular to one another. The larger and taller one contains the living areas and the master bedroom and the other serves as a guest wing and garage. The common areas are combined into a large open plan living space with a beautiful black and white palette. Tall and narrow windows with black frames penetrate the roof and a fully-glazed wall at the back of the volume frames the best view in the house. In comparison, the guest area has a simpler design and features a muted palette of materials and finishes. Nevertheless, these two volumes complement each other perfectly.
