Stylish apartment in Italy at the limit between natural and artificial

This apparently austere apartment is located in Mantova, Italy. It was a project by Archiplan Studio. They didn’t try to make it look perfect like most people do. Instead they embraced the imperfections and decided to not put accent on precision and appearances. They wanted to emphasize the relationship between natural and artificial and not to try to control everything.

The architects opted for natural materials and finishes. Notice how many interesting details are everywhere you look. What some of us might perceive as imperfections are in this case accent features and elements that make this apartment unique. The wooden floors and exposed beams in the ceilings give a sense of cozyness and create a pleasant and warm atmosphere. On the other hand, the concrete and brass surfaces have a certain roughness to them.

Overall, the apartment is mysterious and obscure. It’s not as bright as other homes and this was a deliberate choice. The color palette used for the interior includes warm and earthy tones as well as neutrals. There are no bold and vibrant colors, no colorful artwork on the walls and no unnecessary pieces of furniture. It’s a contemporary apartment that combined natural and artificial elements in a beautifully balanced way. It’s strange to see those unfinished walls, nonlinear surfaces and dark decors. It was all intentional and it’s a bold option for both the client and the architects.
