Sleek house in Austin, Texas by James D. LaRue Architects
This impressive house is located in Austin, Texas and it’s a very special place. It’s a 4.722 square foot home but the reality is it looks much bigger than that. The house is very spacious and it has large rooms. That’s why it’s curious that the kitchen seems to be so small, compared to the size of the house. Maybe the owners don’t like to cook. Anyway, this imposing building was designed by James D. LaRue Architects and it’s called the Westlake Drive House.
It’s a very nice family home, with plenty of room for kids. It’s located on the 12th fairway of a west Austin golf course and it allows beautiful views over the golf course from nearly every room. Also, it’s a very subtle and soft transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. There’s no clear and definite separation between the two types of space.
The house is structured into three separate buildings. However, they are all connected through bridges, breezeways and “streets”. Each one of these separate structures has a specific function and the rooms are functionally divided in order to provide privacy and intimacy for everyone.
The house also has a large outdoor area where there’s a pool, a beautiful garden, an outdoor kitchen, fireplaces and several seating areas. It’s an impressive structure but it seems to be well organized and also very inviting.
