Simple House in Brazil Takes Over The Entire Plot

This modern residence from Brazil is very interesting for a variety of different reasons. For example, the house occupies the entire plot. It doesn’t leave room for a garden or a courtyard in the proper sense of the word and that makes it stand out but also makes sense considering the proportions of the site and design of the house itself. This was a project completed by studio Otta Albernaz Arquitetura in 2019 and the entire house offers 270 square meters of living space in total. The rooms are organized on two levels connected by a stylish staircase with glass railings. There’s a really nice fluidity between the rooms and between the two floors.

The entrance is marked by a beautiful pergola and a large black door. It leads to the social area which occupies the ground floor. This is where the living room, kitchen and dining area are all interconnected, with no physical barriers between them. This volume looks and feels very open thanks to the glass walls which allow the natural light to get inside. Although the only view is that of the concrete walls surrounding the site, the connection between the indoor and the outdoor is still strong and defining for the project. In comparison, the second floor offers view beyond the walls but have wooden shutters that can completely close off the volume.
