Shadowbox Christmas Ornament Tutorial

I’m crazy about metallic accents, and I was so excited to find these wood shadowboxes that are trimmed with both leather and copper!  I decided to play off the rugged and metallic finishes on the shadow box to create rustic holiday decor. This beautiful decorative project is so easy to make…you’ll want to make one for everyone on your gift list!

Step one: Plan your layout by placing the pine cones and other items inside the shadow boxes to see what will fit and how they will look together. The wood and copper shadow boxes are by Darice and can be found at ConsumerCrafts.com

Step two: I wanted to mimic the copper accents on the shadow boxes to tie the elements together, so I used copper texture paste to highlight some of the items that will go in the shadowboxes. First I brushed some copper metallic texture paste onto the tips of the pine cones.  Then I brushed the copper paste over the metal stars on the wire garland.

Step three: Hot glue the highlighted pine cones inside the shadow boxes.

Step four: Hot glue the ornaments inside the shadowboxes. Some of my ornaments had wire attached, so I wrapped the wire around the ends of the pinecones before gluing them in place.

Step five: Embellish the empty spaces in the shadowboxes with other accent items. I added fabric holly clusters from Petaloo to one box. I added the metal star garland to the other box. Use hot glue to hold all of the additions in place in the shadow box.

These ornament shadowboxes are large and will definitely be noticed on a tree! They look lovely standing, too, and would make a beautiful addition to a mantel or tablescape. They’d be pretty at a Christmas table, and could even double as favors for guests to take home. Have fun crafting and creating beautiful metallic shadowboxes for Christmas!
