On the beautiful banks of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, a new eye-catching structure rises, a stylish contemporary residence recently completed by the architects at SAOTA and the talented interior designer Mark Rielly from ARRCC. They had to deal with strict planning regulations and design restrictions but ultimately managed to create something amazing.
The house has a sculptural design which emphasizes the use of curved structures and surfaces
The house is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture with an interior design that reflects the owner’s South African heritage but also incorporates a variety of European and international influences. This unique melange gives the house lots of character and showcases the beautiful marriage between the designer’s signature style and the client’s own preferences.
The site on which the house was built is situated in the very close proximity of the lakeThe house features a very interesting geometry which helps it stand out but also allows to fit within the triangular-shaped siteLarge glazed surfaces define the entire rear section of the house, opening the interior spaces to the exteriorA curved glass wall defines the large living area and frames the gorgeous view over the lake
The Lake House, as it was dubbed, sits on a triangular-shaped site that presented a challenge right from the start of the project. The architects’ response was to create a sculptural structure that seamlessly blends together a variety of geometric forms in a very natural way. On the exterior, the house features dark zinc cladding complemented by textured granite details. On the inside, the design relies on layers of different materials, textures, and colors and the result is an eclectic mix with a very harmonious feel. At the same time, there’s a very beautiful juxtaposition of both formal and informal spaces that complement each other.
