The Peaceful Anemolia Villa – Renovated And Simplified
Villa Anemolia is located in Santorini, in a quiet village and it has been recently renovated. It was a project by MPLUSM Architects. The idea was to give the villa a simplified look and to transform the preexisting structure into a peaceful space perfect for relaxation. The rooms of the villa look like caverns. They have arched walls and ceilings and an overall minimalism look.
The main characteristic that defines the new design of the villa is the organic shape which the architects used throughout. The rooms feature skylights instead of large windows and they also have embedded recessed lights within the walls.
This way, they are filled with light but they also remain cozy and intimate, despite the overall white décor. The tall and vaulted ceilings are a typical feature of traditional structures and they are usually a great option when long wooden beams are not available.
In order for the spaces to also feel familiar and not too strange for the visitors, freestanding furniture was chosen instead of built-in pieces. The sofas are lifted on wooden platforms and they also double as beds which makes the living area a flexible space. This choice of regular furniture combined with the vaulted ceilings bring together two very different ideas related to traditional design and architecture and the fact that the interior is so simple means that the focus in on the architecture.
