Rural residence renovated In Treia by Wespi de Meuron

This rural property is located in 62010 Treia (MC), Marche, Italy. It sits on a 12,500 square meter site and the house itself covers a total floor area of 311 square meters. The residence was renovated in 2010 by Wespi de Meuron. The property is beautiful and includes a beautiful farmhouse. The house is around 300 years old and it’s a three-storey structure.

Since the house is so old, a renovation was no longer optional. Moreover, around a half of the main building was damaged by fire in 1995. Because it was an old building with historic value, the façade of the main building has been put under protection by the municipal authority. The residence was renovated and it got an addition of two smaller volumes with only one level.

The renovation was restricted but changed could be made nevertheless. The main idea was to renovated but also to transform the property into a contemporary home and holiday retreat. It got an attached guest house and a pool. The façade and the masonry has been preserved and restored. All the wood structures had to be replaced.

The new residence is a combination of old and new and the contrast is sometimes very visible. The roof was restored and has a traditional design. However, the intermediate floors feature white plaster walls. Overall, the property is a nice mix of old and new, traditional and modern and the combination is well-balanced.
