Private House Room Transformed Into A Multimedia Library

YTA is a company specialized in architecture and it is located in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Nothing out of the ordinary so far, expect the fact that I have seen the result of their work and it really impressed me. One of their projects is called “Digital library” but you would never expect what it looks like. They took a private house in Sao Paolo and totally re-arranged it in order to illustrate their ideas. So they applied industrial design to a normal house and got an incredible result.

I mean there is a strange combination between hi-tech and the latest models of plasma TV and some other appliances and the naked background they are against. The rooms are covered with raw boards that sometimes seem to have been peeled off the walls, leaving the concrete underneath come to the surface and integrate in the general picture.

Every now and then a board would “fold” and form a small bookshelf or TV stand or some other piece of furniture. The plugs and cables are not hidden, but in plain sight, as if they were not unaesthetic, but real and normal and we have to accept them the way they are. There is nothing “digital” about this library and I think the name of the project is ironic. The industrial lighting is mounted on the walls and the whole picture makes you have mixed feelings about it. The style is both retro and futuristic, industrial, with some romantic accents. Interesting.
