A Posh Residence In Saint Tropez That Has Everything But Isn’t Opulent

The architects at SAOTA recently completed an amazing residence in St. Tropez, France which seems to have it all. It’s not an opulent house and the focus of its design is not on grandeur but that doesn’t mean it’s not impressive. In fact, it’s a pretty amazing house no matter how you look at it. It has great views of a nearby pine forest, free access to a large garden, a swimming pool in its backyard and even a boule court among the trees.

As the case is with most residences, the most impressive side is not the only visible from the street but the one facing the backyard. This exquisite residence is fully open towards the outdoor terrace, the sloping garden, the sun-bathing terrace, the swimming pool and the pine forest which provides a wonderful backdrop for all of these features.

In contrast with the rear of the residence, its street-facing side features a solid and closed facade with only a few openings that are either long and horizontal or narrow and vertical. These openings let light into specific areas of the house without compromising privacy. The entrance is quite interesting, featuring a massive front door with a huge and sculptural handle.

The opposite side of the house has large and frameless windows which provide panoramic views of the garden and pool area as well as the forest beyond them. They let in lots of natural sunlight and ensure a very close and pleasant connection between the indoor living spaces and the outdoor functions. The rear facade also has this huge opening which leads into a double-height space with a stunning chandelier.

Speaking of chandeliers, the one in the dining area is really glamorous and eye-catching, giving the space a luxurious and sophisticated look. In contrast with it, the furniture and the decorations are very simple and feature a classy blend of looks and functionality.

The lounge, kitchen and dining area share an open floor plan and on the same level there’s also a guest bedroom. Between these two zones there’s a courtyard garden with a small pond and a large and very beautiful olive tree. The bedroom is decorated with neutral colors and simple and natural materials just like the rest of the residence. You can see pieces from the owner’s own art collection being displayed in key areas throughout the residence. They sometimes add a touch of color to the decor or serve as focal points. These strategically-placed gallery spaces give the house a very personal and chic look.

The bedrooms are open to the outdoors too. They're also cozy and intimate and have an increased level of privacy compared to the social zone

As you can see, this is an amazing residence and we wouldn’t want to change anything about it. We like the simplicity of the interior design, the sophisticated touch that the artwork and the views give to the interior spaces, the seamless connection between them and the outside world and, of course, the amazing backdrop that the forest provides. It’s like a natural barrier that allows the property to have a sense of privacy while remaining open.
