The Perfect Home And Art Gallery Combo Revealed Inside This Apartment
Every home should reflect its owners’ style and should emphasize the element they’re passionate about. In other words, a home should be the a material representation of its owners’ minds, an extension of their personality. Take this apartment in Madrid for example. It’s located in a building from the 1950s, one of the first ones to feature a reinforced concrete structure. The apartment went through a complete renovation in 2017 when Lucas y Hernández – Gil gave it a completely new identity.
First of all, it’s important to know that the owners are art collectors and they’re passionate about painting and photography. These inclinations are beautifully reflected into the new interior design of this amazing 200 square meter apartment. The space is a sort of hybrid between a residence and an art gallery and finding the right balance between these two worlds was a challenge which the architects overcame in a very inspiring way.
The apartment’s transformation was more than just a visual makeover. The interior was also re-compartmentalized in order to be better suited for its owner’s lifestyle. The social areas are open there’s a very natural flow between them. At the same time, functions such as the kitchen or the dining area have their own identity and can even become separated from the rest of the floor plan. This sliding partition can completely hide the entire kitchen zone, turning the rest of the social area into a gallery.
The kitchen has its own semi-private area and its interior design and decor are minimalist, white being the primary color used on the walls, the ceiling, the custom furniture and the island. However, the space doesn’t lack character or even color. The chairs which accompany the island introduce a very chic and fresh shade of turquoise into the space which blends nicely with their light wooden frames.
The flooring is made of oak wood and stretches all across the apartment with the exception of the kitchen and the master bathroom. It’s a design element which adds warmth to the apartment and which complements the minimalism of the crisp white walls as well as all the accent colors which are introduced into the spaces in various different ways. The bedroom is no different, being scarcely furnished and decorated with just a hint of blue and red. As far as the bathroom spaces are concerned, the choice of materials plays an important role there, the same as the mirrors.
