Old Train Station Becomes A Rentable Holiday Home In Belgium
Projects that turn old and abandoned structures into something else, giving them a new life and a new meaning, are always inspiring and fun to explore. One such project can be found in Ardennes, in Belgium. This is where you can find a charming holiday home which you can rent whenever you want.
The house used to be a train station and a pretty small one actually. Yet this didn’t stop the architects from turning it into a charming holiday home able to sleep 9 people. With views as beautiful as these ones it’s hard not to fall in love with this house.
Since this used to be a functional train station, it’s not surprising to find out that there are genuine train tracks crossing the property. Trolleys on these tracks offer kids a fun activity they can enjoy, although adults might enjoy it as well.
The renovation reveals a very cozy and welcoming house. A combination of materials including blue stone, metal, wood and concrete was used throughout the house, this giving the house an eclectic look, somewhere between rustic, industrial and modern.
The building is structured on two levels. On the ground floor you can find a small sitting room, a dining area as well as an open kitchen with a bar. Three bedrooms and their own private baths are also situated down here. The interior spaces are connected to a large outdoor terrace and a barbecue area.
Large windows let in natural light and the wood used for most of the furniture, the ceiling and the staircase wall make the volumes feel warm and inviting despite the simple, neutral and cold color palette.
A metal fireplace warms up the ambiance in the sitting area. The stone wall behind it provides a beautiful backdrop and the polished concrete floor maintains a cohesive décor throughout the house. A set of Arne Norell armchairs with leather seats in red and white offer addition seating and complete the space.
The upper floor houses its own kitchen together with a living area, a bedroom, a bathroom and a terrace. Smaller windows ensure a private and cozy ambiance on this level. The color palette was intentionally kept dark to emphasize this detail.
Those that wish to rent the house can also enjoy a large garden with a pizza oven and plenty of room for both kids and adults to have fun and enjoy the gorgeous views. Being surrounded by pastures, there’s not much to see around here but, nevertheless, the surroundings are amazing.
