Old Barn Converted Into A Rustic Family Retreat With Authentic Charm
Once just an old barn, this lovely structure is now a welcoming getaway retreat for its owners and their extended family, a great place where they can spend vacations and holidays and go fishing, skiing or hiking. The conversion was done by studio Miller-Roodell Architects. The new barn-style home resulted from that is located in Sun Valley, in Idaho on a relatively flat piece of land with serene and beautiful views all around it.
The architects used a selection of materials such as reclaimed wood boards, stone and metal roofing to give it a rustic appearance but also to help it better blend into the landscape. Of course, a few adjustments had to be made in order to truly turn this barn into a suitable family home.
An extension for built and it contains a new master bedroom, an artist’s studio and the garage. Three more bedrooms are placed inside the main building along with the rest of the spaces. The structures share similar designs with rustic decor elements and a very cozy and welcoming vibe inside.
The entryway doors for the main barn and the extension were custom designed and they help ensure a strong connection between the indoor and the outdoor spaces while maintaining a cohesive appearance. Inside, the spaces are very warm and inviting, featuring large exposed beams, wood-clad walls and matching flooring as well as great focal points such as the stacked stone fireplace situated in the already authentically rustic living room or the beautiful handcrafted artwork displayed throughout the rooms.
