An Office Building In India That Looks Like A Sculptural Work Of Art
Showing sensibility towards the topographical and cultural context of a building is a nice way to ensure that the structure will fit into its surroundings. That’s a strategy used by large companies such as Google when building localized headquarters and also a one that guided this amazing-looking building from Surat, India.
This is Sangini House, an office designed for a construction firm entitled Sangini Group which was established in 1984. It’s a project completed in 2019 and the result of a collaboration between studios Urbanscape Architects and Utopia Designs.
The building is eight stories tall although from certain perspectives it looks like a five-storey structure. Its design is harmonized with the surrounding area and responds to the heritage and the context of the site. At the same time, the architects approached this less as an office building and more like a work of art.
They gave it a sculptural and eye-catching design with lots of interesting elements. There’s cantilevered floor plates and a stone shell that wraps around the central core of the building as well as the 5th and 6th floors. The perforated facade contrasts with the rest of the exposed concrete surfaces and the glazed sections of the building.
