Northern California Vineyard Pavilion With Big Barn Doors And A Stylish Interior

When asked to design a multifunctional pavilion that would be able to host dinner gatherings for up to 60 people, the Anderson Architects team took some time to check out the area and asked their clients all the important questions that ultimately helped to shape this place. Their plan was to create a big barn house, a structure inspired by the rustic surroundings but with a lot of modern flair. They completed the project in 2014. What you see here is a large building on a beautiful vineyard in Northern California, U.S. It occupies a piece of land on the N edge of the vineyard and it has this wide V shape. This creates three sheltered courtyards around the building. It’s meant to serve as a beautiful retreat, a guest pavilion which can be easily opened up to the surrounding. It was designed and positioned in such a way that it takes maximum advantage of all the open space around it.

It was important for this barn-inspired pavilion to be multifunctional and flexible and the layout and the interior design seek to achieve that. As a general rule, the materials chosen for this project are low-maintenance. They were also specifically chosen in relation with their context and the surroundings so they can age well within this landscape. The exterior of the barn is clad in cedar wood and the interior features whitewashed plywood surfaces, concrete floors and Douglas Fir roof trusses. The main volume is a double-height space with a balcony and an organic connection to the outdoors. The kitchen has a skylight shaft and the garage doubles as a basketball court. These are just a few of the details that make this place unique and special.
