Museum Transformed Into Luxury Home In Rotterdam

Sometimes interior designers get so focused that they manage to do an excellent job at recreating a style and so you sometimes get the feeling that you’re in a museum rather than in a home. But the opposite can be achieved as well. It’s what happened with this space. This used to be the Kralings Museum at the Hoflaan but now it’s a modern luxury home.

The transformation was a project by Rotterdam-based studio Peña Architecture. The former museum is now a stunning apartment building with a contemporary and open layout. Sunlight makes all the rooms look incredible and they’re all stylish of course.

The main goal and also a great challenge was to make the space look modern while also remaining within the city’s preservation requirements. The architect designed a wooden cube which extends from the ground floor and go all the way up to the top floor. This walnut structure supports the staircase and it’s surrounded by glass.

The walls were painted white throughout and so they contrast with the appliances, the lighting fixtures and other elements. This visual contrast breaks the monotony of the interior décor and also gives the space a clean and modern look. Overall, the interior design is simple and functional and this shows that transforming a museum into a livable home is not that difficult after all.{found on designboom and mymodernmet}.
