A Modest Lake House Rises Above The Landscape To Bring The Views In

There’s no definite way of accurately comparing houses between them since each one is unique and depends on its location, the landscape that surrounds it, the topography of the site and lots of other elements. Still, we can honestly say we find this lake house to be extremely charming. It’s one of the many cool houses that we’ve had the privilege of writing about.

You can find this house in Jocotepec, Mexico. It was designed and built here by FARQ Architects in 2017 and it offers a total of 410 square meters of beautiful living spaces. The site overlooks a nearby lake and the clients really wanted to be able to enjoy them from inside the house. Unfortunately, the topography didn’t allow it. The architects managed to overcome this impediment by elevating the house about 5 and a half meters above the initial level. It wasn’t easy but the strategy paid out great.

Design-wise, this is a fairly modest structure. It’s a single-level house with a simple and closed off facade towards the street and large windows and sliding glass doors at the back. These connect the internal spaces to the beautiful views and bring lots of natural light in. The overall simplicity of the design allows the focus to be on the views and at the same time maintains a modern and harmonious ambiance.

The living room, kitchen and dining area are all part of open space. It has a high ceiling, concrete flooring and a seamless connection with the adjacent deck and poolside area. The decor also has a zen touch which goes well with the palette of materials and finishes chosen for the design. The main areas are clustered at the center of the house while the rest of the spaces frame them on the sides.

Three elements were at the center of the project: space, light and views. There were the features that the clients and architects agreed to focus on. As a result, they have the house high ceilings, full-height windows, and they elevated it. The result was pure harmony.
