A Modern Warehouse With Wavy Gable Roofs That Look Like Mountains
Looking at this structure from a distance we’d say it both looks like a warehouse and it doesn’t. It definitely has that industrial vibe but also it looks a lot smoother and more inviting than a typical warehouse building. To better understand it, we’ll have a closer look at this project from a design and aesthetic point of view. The structure is located in Pifo, Ecuador and was built by Estudio Felipe Escudero. It covers an area of 1,000 square meters and was completed in 2018. From a structural point of view it’s easy to see that there are two distinct volumes. One is the large warehouse on the left and the other is a pair of smaller warehouses to the right.
Together all three sections are connected and form a single large structure. They serve different functions but at the same time they share in common a similar aesthetic. The large warehouse is a controlled-temperature storage area for cheese while the smaller warehouses serve as office spaces. All three have gable roofs covered by a wavy black aluminum layer. Visually, the roofs are reminiscent of mountains and actually reference the surrounding landscape in the distance. The office spaces are inviting and manage to seamlessly combine modern and industrial elements in their design. They have large windows that frame beautiful views, a brick accent wall and stylish furniture and lighting fixtures all around.
