Modern Kiev Apartment Boosts An Array Of Unique Lighting Designs

Spreading over 200 square meters, this apartment is more than enough for a young family. But size isn’t what has drawn us to this place. What we’re interested in is the interior design. We fell in love with the minimalism displayed here.

The apartment was designed by Ukrainian studio Ivan Yurima Architects. It’s located in Kiev and was customized to suit the modern lifestyle of a young family. They wanted the space to be as simple as possible and as functional as possible while also serving as an aesthetically pleasing environment.

The first thing you notice about the apartment is the rather unusual layout. A long and narrow living space includes the kitchen and the main social area. It has a light-colored floor and furniture that disappears into the background. The lighting comes in the form of long luminous stripes that divide the ceiling into parallel columns, emphasizing the shape of the room.

One of the longer walls is covered with horizontal wood boards. The wood softens the minimalist and sleek design and allows the space to feel a bit more welcoming. This wall also includes a super sleek and modern fireplace which is the focal points towards which the sofa is facing.

The kitchen corner looks really cozy, despite the monochrome décor. A wood slab acts as a bar extension for the kitchen island and also matches the wall.

The whole apartment was designed with minimalism in mind and this also includes colors. White is the main shade used in all the rooms but it’s always complemented by other elements and fails to look cold and empty.

A super lovely dining area is placed right in front of the open kitchen. Although there are no solid boundaries between it and the rest of the living space, this area feels private and intimate.

A chic pendant light hangs above the round table and six classy chairs are arranged around it. The soft curves and lines coordinate here perfectly.

Let’s move on and take a look at the bedroom. There’s a really interesting detail here, one that gives personality to the room. That detail is the curved wall. It’s only slightly curved and it’s mostly covered by floor-to-ceiling windows. Imagine how stunning the sweeping views must be in the morning.

Remember the unique lighting in the living area? The bedroom was designed on the same principle: something unusual, geometric and simple. There’s also that light under the floating bed which emphasizes its minimalist design even more and highlighting the space under the bed is a cool strategy to make the decor stand out in a modern and edgy way.

The en-suite bathroom looks really stunning in daylight, with that accent wall so mysterious and geometrically exciting. But wait till the lights come on and you see some of the squares highlighted from behind.

The whole concept takes over the décor and you overlook everything else in the room.

The second bathroom is considerably smaller and has a shower instead of a tub but, even so, it feels super inviting. The soft colors and textures are exactly what the room needs.

A chic and minimalist home office has all the details just right. The sleek desk that goes from wall to wall with no support underneath, the wooden floor that makes the room feel super cozy and the way the pendant light sits playfully in the corner give the room a lot of flair despite how simple it is.

And how about that delicious walk-in closet? It’s hard to say whether the picture is taken in black and white or whether the room is actually designed this way. Again, the lighting is as striking as it is simple. Rows of open shelves and hanging rods cover the walls on either side of the room, revealing a small desk area at the far end.

And there’s also a place where kids can have fun. A cute, house-shaped chalkboard sits on a wall and a the back you can see the rest of the room, with round, built-in lights in the ceiling, the same breezy white curtains that we’ve seen everywhere else in the apartment and a few colorful accents.
