Modern Gable Roof House Split In Half by Glass

This modern house from Poland is a very odd structure which was designed by Kropka Studio. It’s a two-storey barn-style home nestled in a hillside and if you look at it from the back all you see is the upper level. On that note, the two floors look very different from one another. The lower section of the house is cast in concrete and is a very flat structure while the upper section is clad in black metal panels and has a gable roof design. This horizontal split gives the house a strange but at the same time interesting and eye-catching look.

As interesting as this distinction between the two floors is, there’s another design feature that stands out even more. There’s also a vertical split which separates the upper half of house into two sections with a glazed area in between. This cut divides the master bedroom and the living area which are situated on the upper level, creating two independent spaces. The areas are connected to the lower section of the house via a wood and glass staircase. The ground floor is partially sunk into the hillside and has a lower ceiling compared to the upper floor. It houses the garage, an area dedicated to the children and the rest of the bedrooms. It has access to a terrace and to the garden, the same as the top floor.
