Stand-Out Bookshelves With Cool Geometries

What you display on a bookshelf is as important as the shelf itself. We sometimes choose to ignore that and we furnish our homes and offices with the same plain and boring bookshelves that everyone else has without stoping to consider other options. If you’d like to see some alternatives, we’re ready to show you some of our favorite designs. These cool bookshelves are creative and have very interesting geometries. They’re unique bookshelves that can enhance a modern decor in unexpected ways.

Meet Junior, a cute shelving unit shaped like a bear. It comes in two versions so you can either have a brown bear or a polar bear into your home or office. Both models share the same design features. They’re conceived as a series of hollow modules with various shapes and sizes which can be used for the storage of books, devices, vases and other things. This is a freestanding unit which can be displayed in all sorts of cool ways. You could even use it as a space divider.

The Fausto bookcase captures the majestic beauty of the goat, a beautiful animal that lives on steep mountain peaks and which is shown here in a graceful posture. This is a bookcase that’s practical, stylish and humorous at the same time. It’s made of high-pressure laminate pieces, just like the Junior bear. You can find it in three color options: black, white and red.

It’s obvious where the inspiration for the Rubika bookcase comes from. It’s a modern and graphical interpretation of the Rubik’s Cube concept, transformed into a functional and stylish bookcase capable of looking great in a variety of spaces thanks to its versatile geometry. This particular configuration is created out of three identical modules, each shaped like a three dimensional cube. It shows how these bookcases can be combined to form custom configurations. The Rubika bookcase was designed by George Bosnan and comes in a variety of funky colors.

If there’s one thing we’d almost always pair with a bookcase, that would be a chair. Together these two are a perfect match. The problem we often encounter in this case is the lack of space. With the Bookchair, this problem is a thing of the past. With this innovative design you have both a bookcase and a chair, in the same unit. The cool thing is that the chair fits perfectly into a curved-out slot, completing the bookcase like a missing piece of a puzzle. Further more, the chair itself has storage cubbies built into it so you could take your favorite books with you when you slide out the chair.

Bookcases can sometimes double as room dividers. One such example is the Tilta bookcase which is double-sided and has a modular structure which allows several modules to be stacked. you could have between two and six bookcase modules, depending on how much storage you need and you can use the whole ensemble either as a freestanding unit/ divider or as a wall-adjacent piece.

This is the Book City, an installation designed by MDF manufacturer Masisa in 2013. The goal of the project was to highlight the qualities of MDF and to show the material affects the environments that we love in. It’s an interesting metaphor, a miniature city of bookcases that look like skyscrapers and towers. Their designs are original and playful and could potentially inspire some really cool interior designs.

This is a structure that was also built of MDF. It’s called Onda and it’s a self-supporting bookcase with a highly versatile and modular design. You can pair two or more modules together and display them either vertically or horizontally. In each case, the shelves will have a wavy form, giving the unit a dynamic and eye-catching look. The bookcase was designed by architect Angelo Tomaiuolo.

Unlike other designs, that of the Isola bookcase features a structure made of clear glass which showcases the shelves as floating surfaces, suspended in mid-air. The design is an interesting combination of glass and brass (with either a satin or silver-plated finish). The unit as a whole has a lightweight appearance and a versatile look. It can serve as a bookcase but it can also be a room divider.

We’re intrigued by how the Myria bookcase manages to keep its balance. A closer look at its design reveals its secret. When used as a single module, the bookcase must be attached to the wall. If used in sets of two or more, it can be a freestanding unit, with modules that keep each other in place and well-balanced. The Myria bookcase is made of canaletta walnut and has shelves in smoked tempered glass.

The design of the Albero bookcase allows it to stand out in a rather striking way. This is a furniture piece which can easily be a focal point for spaces like the living room or office. The cool thing about is the floor-to-ceiling freestanding structure. It’s like a tall tower of small and intricate shelves and modules, all clustered around a central pole.
