DIY Design-Inspired Modern Accent Mirror

Are you ready to try a new DIY project? This time, we will be dressing up mirrors in a fun and creative way! One of my favorite interior design tricks is decorating with mirrors. They are not only stylish, they are very functional– they reflect light, making each little corner of a room feel brighter and lighter. In fact, I believe that the more mirrors we have at home, the better! How many have do you have?

Recently, I have really been into round mirrors in all the possible sizes and forms, so I decided to create a special one for my space, adding a bit of geometrical edge and color. Whether it’s displayed by hanging or standing, the mirror adds a great decorative element to a plain corner, don’t you think? See the tutorial below for details on how I made it:

Here’s what you will need:

  • Small, round mirror (I used a table centerpiece mirror for this project)
  • Painter’s tape
  • Spray paint in two colors. I used black and pink because I think this combination looks great, however you can get creative with your own color combination —  just make sure the colors match your space!

Instructions:

Before you start, make sure your mirror is clean and dust-free. Place a piece of painter’s tape across the surface, marking off a section that is about about one-third of the mirror. Cover the rest of the mirror’s surface with paper to make sure that you don’t get paint on it.

Spray paint the section with black.  You might need to spray two coats to get a really smooth and neat finish. Wait for the paint to dry completely between coats.

DIY Design Inspired Mirror Step 2

Gently remove the painter’s tape. Place another piece of tape across the adjacent side of the mirror, at roughly a 90 degree angle from the black section you just painted. Cover the remaining surface with paper and spray paint the section with your second color — I used pink. Wait for the paint to dry completely and again remove the tape.
