Mistakes To Avoid When Using Color

Choosing a color palette is not easy. There are lots of things to take into consideration, such as style, personal preferences, the size of the room you’re decorating and several other aspects. We’re not going to teach you how to choose the right colors. Instead, we’re going to tell you what not to do. We have prepared a few tips referring to mistakes people usually make when choosing the colors for their home and when combining them.

People often forget about lighting when choosing the color for the interior décor. But lighting is very important in any space. So don’t forget to think of how the lighting will affect the colors before making your final decision. Pint a sample and see how it looks like on day light as well as during the night. Only after that you can make a decision.

Another common mistake is when people tend to think that only beige is a neutral color. In reality, any shade can be a neutral. The most important part is for it to feature a nice balance of warm and cool tones. It has to be somewhere in the middle and then it can be called a neutral.

Each color is unique and beautiful so there’s no exact way of comparing them. It’s why many people can’t make up their mind when they have to choose the colors for the interior décor. They end up mixing lots of colors together and the result is just a chaotic mess. A decor is much more beautiful when you only use two of three colors. So don’t overload your color palette and stick to something simple.

Lots of people let the color trends guide them when choosing the colors for their home. But while trends are interesting to analyze, they’re not always the best point of reference to use. Trends come and go and they don’t always include the things you like. So it’s best to first take into consideration your own preferences and only then to consult what other people suggest.

There’s also one more mistake that has been perpetuated over time and that still hasn’t disappeared. It’s when people associate certain color with a gender. It’s for example the case of red or pink which are considered to be girly colors and blue which is for boys. But in reality colors know no gender so don’t let this detail influence you when decorating your home.
