Measuring only 27 square meters in total, this studio apartment recently got an impressive makeover meant to inspire future designs for high-density urban areas. The redesign of the micro apartment was completed in 2013 by Australian architect Nicholas Gurney. Located in Sydney, Australia, this place impresses in more than one way. First of all, let’s the color palette is simple but bold and playful, just like the fictional character that inspired the project. Shades of yellow, red and black help demarcate the spaces and give the apartment a fresh and cheerful look.

The kitchen is black, the sleeping area is bright red and there’s also a yellow bookcase. Both the bedroom and the bookcase disappear behind white sliding doors when not needed. Because of the reduced dimensions of the studio, the architect had to be creative. Sliding panels allow access to different areas while concealing the others and this way the overall décor remains simple, fresh and airy at all times.

Storage is also concealed by sliding doors and cabinets. The sleeping area is the most interesting space, full of surprises. There’s plenty of storage behind the red panels as well as under the bed and a niche in the wall serves as a nightstand and open shelf.
