Nature-inspired interior decors are our favorites. We love spaces that are infused with the freshness of the outdoors and that include quirky decorations such as animal-shaped sculptures or paintings that capture landscapes or abstract representations of peaceful and serene spaces. Today we have something special prepared for you. We searched far and wide and we managed to find a bunch of really unusual decorations inspired by a variety of animals. Let’s see what makes each collection stand out from the crowd.

Jose Granell is a man of many talents. His work as a special effects director in the film industry got him working on titles such as the Harry Potter series, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Batman and that’s not all he’s known for. He also built classical guitars and other musical instruments and lately focused his attention on nature. Grazing is his latest project.

The goal of the project was to take the animals out of their wild habitat and to put them in unexpected settings. Although they look real, they’re actually crafted using bronze and other highly polished metals chosen for their unexpected charm in this particular context. The project combines sculpting, casting, welding and leather working. The animals have high-density foam cores and they are upholstered in authentic fleeces which make each piece unique. They are made to order in a limited edition.

The unique style of artist Carla van Dyke originated from the fact that she started working with small scraps of vintage fabrics and left overs from other collections. Her experience in illustration, fashion, art and design inspired her to make something out of all those scraps and that’s how this trademark style came to be.

The artist creates beautiful sculptures using a textile taxidermy technique and she also has a collection of beautiful cushions featuring images of animals, all made of precisely cut out pieces which are then all stitched together to create intricate designs. Every sculpture and cushion is made to order and this makes each piece unique and unlike any other. This type of faux taxidermy is both eco-friendly and stylish.

Of course, we can’t talk about animal sculptures and decorations without bringing into discussion taxidermy.  Artist Anne Orlowska has always been passionate about taxidermy but not in the traditional sense. She chose to turn her back on that and to explore more creative options and to search for new aesthetics to create unique and poetic art.

Design and Nature brings to light a whole range of taxidermy curiosities which include small and large mammals, birds, trophies and even insects. All the animals died naturally and they come from places like zoos, circuses or animal parks.

Since this is not traditional taxidermy, the animals are not simply meant to look alive. They’re posed in scenes and they’re displayed in combination with all sorts of objects and items designed to enhance their beauty. The whole point is to bring the imagination to life and to actually look authentic but not in a boring way.

Antiques have something special and some prefer the history that such an item comes with. Take this vintage antelope mounted in the 1930s. It comes from a private collection in Germany and it’s just one the things offered by Original House. The few worn patches that it has give it character and tell a story.

In case you have a taste for the unusual and you like things that stand out, check out these cardboard animal heads from Cardboard Safari. They’re definitely pretty cool and crafty. You can find bears, deers, elephants, zebras and even unicorn heads, all made of cardboard. Display these sculptures on walls and let them become a part of your home or workspace.

Something similarly interesting is offered by Assembli, a small Dutch design laboratory. However, there are major differences. For instance, the animal heads are made of paper and they have a sculptural and geometric look. They are delivered in pieces (paper and glue) and have to be assembled so there’s also an interactive side that makes them special.

These exquisite decorations are the work of artist Enrique Gomez de Molina. If the name sounds familiar that may be because of a scandal a few years ago. The artist pled guilty after being accused of importing without permit the skins of king cobra, pangolin, birds of paradise, skulls of orangutans and the carcass of a slow loris and several other animals. This definitely had a huge impact on the collections on display as well as on the image of the artist. Nevertheless, we can’t ignore the beauty of some of his creations.
