This is the latest amazing project completed by the SAOTA studio and as always it immediately stands out and inspires. The Hillside house is situated above Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and is a truly modern oasis. The site occupies an area of 20 000 square feet and enjoys a privileged location that gives it 300 degree views over the city and the beautiful skyline.

These views have been maximized by the architects who, as always, managed to create a seamless connection between the indoor and the outdoor spaces. A series of exterior areas, most of them covered, act as extensions for the indoor living spaces. The fire pit nook in particular is a spectacular little space, featuring a glass railing which allows the scenery to be admired in its entirety. Also, the fire pit seating area is surrounded by water which creates a nice and interesting contrast.

It’s easy to see why this place is an oasis. It’s not just the large scale of the project that suggests this but also the manner in which the architecture and the house itself interacts with its surroundings. Both the interior and the exterior spaces feel very open and airy and they enjoy a constant and organic connection to nature and the panoramic views in particular.

Inside, the house is organized into two wings which are oriented East to West and respectively North to South. One of the ground floor spaces is a large 12-car garage with a stylish a glamorous interior. For the rest of the spaces the designers reserved a palette of materials and finishes that’s simple, warm and welcoming, with an emphasis on the tactile nature of the surfaces.
