Long And Narrow Apartment Gets A Fresh Remodel In Tel Aviv

This apartment building is located in Tel Aviv, Israel. If it looks old that’s because it is. The structure is a preservation-listed building which means there are limitations and restrictions concerned what can or cannot be modified, renovated or redesigned about it and the spaces inside of it. We’ll show you one of the apartments in this complex. It measures 93 square meters in total and it’s been remodeled in 2017 by XS Studio for Compact Design.

The apartment, although pretty spacious in theory, is long and narrow and with all the restrictions the layout had to be preserved. Its owners wanted a spacious living room and a set of inviting and practical bedrooms. The 9-meter long corridor connects all these spaces and is an important element in the apartment’s structure not just because of its unusually large size but also because of its crucial role. That being said, the designers made sure to give a cool look and to make it look bright in spite of its narrowness. White is the main color used on the walls and ceilings and this is true not just for the corridor but for the entire apartment.

The exposed brick walls which can be seen in pretty much every area of the apartment preserve the history of the building and infuse the rooms with a rustic-industrial character. We like the simplicity that dominates the entire apartment, including the bedrooms. However, that doesn’t mean they lack charm or comfort. These come from the little things like the framed pictures on the walls or the cozy nooks and wooden furniture. The corridor is well lit and opaque glass door let some of that artificial light enter some of the other spaces.

One of the bedrooms is shared by twins and has a divider which separates it in two distinct zones. Surprisingly, the whole room measures only 14 square meters across. Bunk beds save floor space and also make the room feel particularly cozy. The bedrooms in general are small and minimal in terms of furniture and decorations. This allows the living area to be spacious which was one of the requirements from the owners.
