Functionality Meets Elegance In A Classy Loft In Copenhagen

You probably heard about the danish concept “hygge” (coziness) which is so popular because of its meaning and the difficulty to be translated in other languages. This loft has everything it needs to be assigned to this concept: it’s inviting, full of light, warmth, and induces a cheerful mood.

One of the things I really like about this apartment is the bold contrast created by the dark furniture and white walls and floor. For example, this black coffee table that seems to be made of wood is both practical and elegant, and really completes the entire living room area.

Located in Islands Brygge, Copenhagen, this living space has an interesting history. The place used to be a pencil factory somewhere around 1900. The lucky owner of this loft is actually the chief designer in Vipp, Morten Bo Jensen. He and his girlfriend Kristina May Olsen managed to completely restore this place and turn it into a gorgeous home for them and their 5 years-old twins.

“The apartment was stripped to the bone; I spent a great deal of time reflecting on how I want to live. My conclusion was quite simple; function and efficiency must be the starting point, both in the architecture, the interior and in the location.” (Morten)

As you can see, the interior design is quite simple and elegant. This contemporary piece of art (the yellow sticks are pencils) is a reminder of what this place used to be. The large open space offered the opportunity to efficiently organize every corner of this loft. Oh, and we couldn’t help but notice how the laminate wood floor harmoniously completes the interior design of this apartment.

A special charm is given by the firewood storage system and the hanging bike. Therefore, two different notions are brought together: adventure and coziness. The office area has a floor to ceiling bookshelf wall and you probably won’t believe this but wait until you see: the desk is made of hundreds of cardboard pieces. Due to the large open space, the plant cabinets also work as a space divider, beside the fact that they have a decorative function.

Many pieces of furniture are designed by Morten, but the VIPP Kitchen Island is the most important of them all. It’ s made of stainless steel and has three main components: Wall Module, Tall Module and the Kitchen Island.

In the kitchen you will also see industrial pendant lights hanging above the kitchen island and the GUBI 1 HiREK chair. The bathroom has a simple design, featuring a walk-in shower, a bathtub and a single vanity units with drawers designed by VIPP.
