A Little Hooded Cabin Conquers A Secluded Mountain Top Plot
Somewhere on a mountain top in Norway, at an altitude of 1125 meters stands a hooded little cabin with magnificent views and a funky geometric design. It was a project completed in 2018 by studio Arkitektærelset As. Initially, it was believed that the plot was right in the avalanche danger zone and even though that proved to not be true the protective hood design was kept.
This little detail alone is enough to make this sculptural structure unlike any other prefab cabin and definitely cool enough to stand out in any crowd. Of course, the project was not without challenges. Strict building regulations dictated that the cabin should have sectioned windows, standing wood paneling, triple bargeboards and a gabled roof with an angle between 22 and 27 degrees.
All these regulations actually had a positive effect on the project, inspiring the architects to be creative and to come up with unique design solutions. The black painted body of the cabin contrasts with the wooden hood which reflects the beautiful natural colors of the surroundings. A similar combo can be seen indoors where black kitchen cabinets contrast with everything around them but in a very pleasant way. The interior of this 73 square meter cabin is highly efficient in the sense that it includes a kitchen, dining area, living room, a master bedroom, bathroom and a sauna which can double as a guest room plus an entire attic space which can serve as a sleeping area for 8 people.
