The laws of physics are something we can’t argue with. That why it’s so spectacular when we manage to turn them around, even if it’s just an illusion. One case is the Silhouette floating lamp. With a simple and yet striking design, this lamp combines two opposite elements: the ultramodern technology with the antique appearance.

This is a truly unique table lamp, not just because of its eclectic look but also because of the striking simplicity. This contrasting lamp was designed by Angela Jensen and engineer Ger Jansen. It has something unique and it’s not its elegance, even though that’s interesting as well. What really makes it stand out is its floating top. It’s not an illusion created with the help of transparent parts but something more elaborate.

The top is really floating. This effect was achieved with the help of electromagnetic components and a sophisticated control system. Once again, technology is mind-blowing. Another thing I really like about this lamp is its minimalist design. It seems logical to be this way. The simplicity of the design makes the floating top seems even more striking and easier to spot. The lamp is available in two different shapes. There’s the one with a conic top and the one with a bell-like structure. They both come in matte black for $1,300.
