Las Vegas Furniture Market Features Cool Chair Designs
Chairs — they’re a necessity for everyone but that doesn’t mean they have to be basic or boring. Countless options exist for cool chairs, whether you like a formal style, a modern feel or a farmhouse casual vibe. Swapping out some chairs is also a great way to freshen up your decor or update a table setting. Homedit.com saw all kinds of cool chairs at the Las Vegas Furniture Market and is excited to show you some of the great pieces available.
Palecek
Founder Allan Palecek has been traveling the world for more than 40 years, working to build his furniture company. Beginning with his inspiration from basket-weaving by the peoples of Asia, Palecek has developed a network of master artisans, who create furniture from natural fibers and fast-growing hardwoods.
While the shape of the frame might have a formal structure, this armchair from Palecek has a much more casual feel thanks to the mix of materials and combination of unexpected colors. The fabric panel on the back of the chair pairs well with the leather seat. The grayish-green painted frame picks up the accent color in the upholstery and the nailhead detail adds interest.
When the back of a chair is just as interesting — or even more so — than the front, it makes for a great piece of furniture. The rounded shape of this Warren arm chair frame, elevated by the unusual wood design, gives a basic white chair a real design upgrade.
Slightly more formal than a basic rattan piece, this tall-backed Edgewater chair doesn’t have the traditional wings you might expect, and sports a lovely fiber design. Instead of being typically woven the natural fiber on the outside of the chair is attached in a concentric design.
Another piece with an air of being elegantly casual is this rotating armchair. The spindle design along the top of the Clift Swivel Lounge Chair is just enough detail.
Another Palecek chair with “all around” great design. The Adelaide chair has a pole rattan frame with pole rattan pieces woven like vines around the frame. It features a fixed upholstered seat and top edge along with a loose back cushion.
Palecek’s Vero bar stool has a more precise woven natural rattan grid pattern. It’s a nice departure from the usual bar stool design.
This Klisomos lounge chair is definitely more formal. It is made from a pole rattan frame the legs have leather bindings. It is available in various finishes but the gray tone gives it an extra air of sophistication.
Resource Decor
This company’s collections bring together renowned designer brands and feature collaborations that produce pieces with great stories. Resource Decor showed a number of very cool chairs that would be perfect for updating existing collections of furnishings.
The Art Dining Chair has a lovely curve that looks very comfortable. It is built with a Beech wood frame or a stainless steel frame, which encircles the upholstered cushions. The unexpected tufting, especially along the chair back, gives the piece a plusher feel.
The company’s Degas occasional chair is as elegant and different as it’s namesake. The Lucite seat is topped with bright loos cushions. The structure sits atop two metal pieces highlighted by a circular cut-out. It looks as if the chair is balanced on four feet that are “en pointe.”
The Kelly occasional chair, available in nine fabrics, is done here in a regal purple upholstery and sits atop elegant mid-century modern legs. This armchair is an excellent choice for mixing some modern elements into a more traditional living room style.
Even a more staid design, like this Monty Chair, can have a cooler vibe if you choose the right upholstery. The bold colors and geometric pattern in the fabric make this piece more modern than a traditional living room armchair.
Roberta Schilling
Brazilian native Roberta Schilling comes from a family of designers. Her flair is evident in the Brazilian furniture she distributes. The success of Schilling’s 2006 line of contemporary furniture featuring clean, modern lines led her to travel Brazil to find talented local artists to contribute their perspective to contemporary furniture.
The S chair, fashioned of tightly combined wood slats, has a sinuous line that is at the same time elegant and casual.
Known for its high quality leather and wood, Brazil has many artisans who produce amazing furnishings. These armchairs feature both materials, but thanks to the understated leather slings, still have a soft feel. The cushioned, curved back and light seat cushion keep the style easy and not too masculine. A greater amount of leather n the chairs would completely change the style.
This chair is made with two types of leather. The two weights, along with the different colors, again keep the chair from feeling too masculine. The sides of the chair are made of a heavier hide, but the wedge shape prevents it from being overwhelming. The lighter upholstery leather for the cushions adds more a more chic element to the design.
Leather in bold colors is also stylish and gender-neutral. These dramatic red chairs are eye catching without being overwhelming, even when combine with other pieces of red decor.
Rocking chairs aren’t often equated with chic design, but this one fits the fill. Beautiful wood in a contemporary shape make up the arms on both sides of the cool chair. The white woven seat is an upscale finish.
Another slatted wood piece is this cool chair where the slats separate to form the arms. Gorgeous wood and masterful craftsmanship come together in a chair that will also be a conversation piece.
A bit more understated, these cool chairs are highlighted by vertical tufting n the cushions and interesting sticking lines on the sides of the chairs. While they have a mid-century modern feel, they would work well with most decor styles.
Schilling also has cool chairs for the outdoors. These rattan chairs have a dramatic back and an interesting have at the bottom. The gray color is also unexpected, as well as neutral. Take a seat and you’ll feel like you’re sitting in a throne.
Uttermost
This 41-year-old company was founded by Bob and Belle Cooper, and still family owned. Uttermost has a 600,000 square foot facility in Rocky Mount, VA, a 152,000 state-of-the-art distribution facility in Riverside, CA and partner factories throughout Asia. The company’s showroom at the Las Vegas Furniture Market included all kinds of cool chairs.
Homedit saw many pieces that mixed materials in one chair, whether they were all types of upholstery, or whether it was leather mixed with fabric or all different types of fabric. Uttermost had this fun, cool chair, called the Cruzita, which is upholstered in a plush chenille fabric done in earthy jewel tones. The sculptural frame and nap head details add interest to this armless chair.
For a casual dining area, the neutral and textural Lenore armchair, and armless dining chair are great choices. Frayed and exposed seams add dimension to the basic design and even though they are neutral, the are far from boring.
Resource Decor’s Schaefer armchair has exposed solid mahogany hardwood and a neutral linen upholstery. The hammered brass nails provide a stylish accent on the aged white frame. It is a relaxed yet stylish armchair.
Uttermost’s Nadira Caopy chair is so special! The throne-like chair is reminiscent of eighteenth century styling. Created of solid wood, the exposed frame is made of hand carved mahogany. This is a dramatic chair that will entice your guests to take a seat.
The open-back Aislin accent chair is covered in sueded polyester. The bronze nail heads accents add style and the legs are solid birch. It’s substantial but elegant armchair with elegant lines — such a very cool chair.
As you can see, even if you tend toward a more formal, sophisticated interior decor, there are lots of cool chairs to choose from. Regardless, refreshing your space with new chairs is an easy update.
