This stylish apartment is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and it has been recently renovated. The new interior design was a project by Laura Alvarez Architecture. The two-story apartment is situated in a building considered national monument and doesn’t allow for drastic changes to be made, especially to the façade. The clients, together with the interior designers, decided on a striking renovation that would transform the dark apartment into a bright and inviting home. The designers also wanted to make these changes while also preserving and, more than that, bring attention upon some of the ancient elements of the building that were present in the apartment.
The apartment features a 70 square meter living area located on the first floor. It’s a continuous open space designed for typical family activities and entertainment. The cooking and dining area connected via a light steel staircase. The upper floor has been remodeled and got a series of glass walls meant to bring natural light into the lower level of the apartment.
Since one of the windows offered beautiful views towards the Amsterdam channels, an oak gray-painted window bench has been added there. On the upper floor there’s a guest room and the main sleeping room. There areas have been turned into one large room that can be split and divided whenever needed. Between these two spaces there’s a bathroom.
