Induction Cooktops: Pros And Cons

Induction cooktops are the modern version of traditional stoves. They are very different for several reasons. First of all, they don’t use direct heat of open flames like gas stoves. They use induction and this means that heat is transferred from one vessel to another. This helps food cook evenly and makes the stove safer. But, as in the case of any other type of cooktop, this one has both advantages and disadvantages. Let’s take a look at some of the pros.

Pros.

One detail that characterizes induction cooktops and that professional cooks appreciate in general is the fact that you can adjust the heat instantly and with great precision. This way the temperature you want to use for cooking will be more exact.

Another great advantage that comes with using an induction cooktop is that there is no wasted heat. The energy is supplied to the cooking vessel by the magnetic fields and this way it all gets transferred to the vessel without anything getting lost during the process. With traditional stoves, the kitchen becomes a sauna when you’re cooking something because lots of the heat gets lost instead of being used properly.

Of course, we can’t forget about safety. A very important feature that defines induction cooktops is the fact that the stovetop stays cool. You will no longer accidentally burn your hands unless, of course, you touch the induction unit on purpose. You can safely place your grocery list or recipe book on the stovetop near the pot without having to worry about anything.

There are also other significant advantages that come with choosing an induction cooktop over a traditional one. For example, it is easier to install and it’s also space-saving. It’s also easy to clean and more practical overall.

Cons.

The most annoying thing about induction cooktops is the fact that they work with vessels that are made from magnetic materials. This means you’ll most likely have to use stainless steel and cast iron vessels and cookware. So if you’ve already spend a lot of money buying things that are no longer useful you’ll most likely have to do it all over again.

Since induction cooktops are a relatively new creation, lots of people seem to be concerned about all sorts of things. For example, there’s the issue related to power. Induction cooktops are much more powerful than gas stoves so there’s really nothing to worry about it in this sector. Also, there’s the problem of radiations. However, there are no radiation-associated hazards that come with using an induction cooktop so this is just another myth.

Some people also seem to be concerned about the noise. What you need to know is that induction cooktops have a small fan that doesn’t necessarily run all the time but, when it does, it makes a rather soft noise. It’s definitely not something that would be disturbing.

There is, however, an actual con. In case the electricity supply to your home is interrupted you will be unable to use the induction cooktop. Such interruptions are usually more frequent than gas interruption so this could be an issue.

Also, there’s the issue related to cost. Induction cooktops are more expensive than gas stoves so this would be an important investment. However, considering all the advantages that come with it, most people consider this to be a great option.
