How to Incorporate Colorful Flooring Into Your Home

Flooring is perhaps the most basic and essential element of any space. It can’t really get any more practical than something to stand on. But just because it is necessary doesn’t mean it has to be boring. There are plenty of ways to add colorful flooring to your home, but you must keep the rest of the room in mind so the design works from floor to ceiling. Here are a few different options to consider.

Painted Floors.

When dealing with traditional hardwood or concrete floors, you don’t have to stick with the colors they originally come in. If you want to update your flooring, you can just paint the whole thing one solid color. Or if you’re feeling really adventurous you can even use painter’s tape to incorporate stripes or another simple geometric pattern.

If you go with a bright color or bold pattern, a more neutral area rug over the top of it can help to add balance. Then just make sure to bring the color or tone of the floor up into the rest of the room.

Patterned Rugs.

If you want to keep your actual floor in its original state, an area rug or two can help you add color and personality. Think about the colors, patterns, and textures you want in the rest of your room and make sure your rug or rugs go along with those. Again, you can choose to go with just a solid color or a bold pattern. You can even layer different rugs in different parts of your room for a more eclectic look.

Checkered Tile.

Tile is another popular flooring choice. And luckily for color lovers, there are many different varieties to choose from. When you’re looking to brighten up your space and add some color to a room, adding multicolored tiles can help to accomplish that task. Choose two different colors for a checkerboard effect or add even more for a different type of pattern. Then you can add rugs or just leave the tile as-is.

All-Over Carpet.

If you’re really concerned with comfort but still want to add some color to the bottom of your room, there’s always carpet. When your entire floor is covered in a bright color (or multiple colors) you’ll need to really balance out the rest of the space. Try white or light colored walls with pops of colorful art or small items that incorporate colors from the carpet.
