How To Remove Red Wine Stains From The Carpet

Seeing red wine get spiller all over your precious carpet is a pretty dramatic image. You can already imagine yourself having to say goodbye to the carpet and get a new one or having to hide the stain under the sofa. But don’t jump to conclusions just yet. There’s still hope.

A red wine stain that’s still fresh can be removed using club soda. Pour the club soda over the stain and let it bubble up. Use paper towels to clean up the area. Continue doing so until the stain disappears. Seems easy enough but you’d have to act quickly.

To get rid of red wine stains you can use white wine…who knew? Actually you’ll also need a bit of salt, some baking soda, talcum powder and club soda. First, blot up with a clean cloth to remove the excess wine. Then dab the stain with white wine. If the stain is stubborn, try also adding a little bit of club soda on the stain. And if that doesn’t work either, pour either, salt, baking soda or talcum powder on the stain and let it set. This should soak up the stain.

If the stain is old, you’ll need to use a different strategy. You’ll need dish detergent that doesn’t contain bleach, hydrogen peroxide, paper towels, cream of tartar and water. Blot the stain with a mix of one part dish detergent and two parts hydrogen peroxide. If this doesn’t work, apply a paste made of cream of tartar and water. Let it set for a few minutes and then rinse with water and a damp towel.
