Abstract Restaurant Extension Inspired By Landscape Painting

When a new structure was added to the existing building in Chengdu, China, in order to form an Asian fusion restaurant, the inspiration came from the traditional landscape paintings. The architects of Panorama turned this 500 square meter space into a beautiful work of art.

The main goal was to to provide both indoor and semi-outdoor dining areas which could be used to host various events for the hotel and its guests. To reflect the beautiful nature of the Asian fusion cuisine served at the restaurant, the architects opted for an abstract approach and design.

The space features a steel and glass canopy complemented by a timber structure that connects the indoor portion and the newly built extension. The panels allow light to filter through into the restaurant but prevents heat from enveloping the space.

Inside, the space features open plan seating with buffet tables which create a casual and flexible layout and look. Full-height glass pivot doors enhance the indoor-outdoor connection, dissolving the boundaries.

The ceiling was decorated with suspended bird-like accessories made of white ceramic to add an artistic flavor to the restaurant and also to suggest a connection to the art of origami. LED wall relief was also used to decorate some of the wall, thus creating a secondary focal point and introducing various colors to the décor.
