Most of the times, the shape of the room dictates its interior design and décor. If a room is rectangular and very large, then the décor needs to compensate for that and the furniture and the decorations need to create an inviting and cozy atmosphere. But if a room is long and narrow, then the problems seem to be more challenging. Let’s take a look at a few examples of living room with such a shape and see how their owners managed to make them beautiful and inviting.
This living room shares a semi-open plan with the dining room. But the living area alone is still quite long and narrow. This means that a single sitting area would have been very difficult to create. Instead of that, two different sitting areas were created. They are both featuring the basic sofa and coffee table but they manage to complement each other without clashing.
In this case the solution was quite different. Instead of splitting the room and its users into two groups, a single sitting area was organized. The other part of the living room features a low, L-shaped wall unit with a minimalist and modern design. There’s nothing else obstructing the décor and the room has an airy and spacious look.
There’s also the option of choosing to have more than just a sofa and an armchair. This living room doesn’t even seen as narrow now that it has been filled with cozy furniture. The sofa was placed in the middle of the room and surrounded by armchairs, ottomans and stools. It’s an expanded sitting area and the color palette mostly focusing on earthy tones contributes to the inviting and comfortable atmosphere.
One way of dealing with a long and narrow room is to place the furniture perpendicular to the length of the room. For example, this living room features two loveseats facing each other and organized around a coffee table. On the wall portion adjacent to this space there’s also a fireplace which makes the atmosphere even more pleasant. The other portion of the room is occupied by a cozy bed.
