A Contemporary House That Engages With The Public In A Unique Way

There’s a house in Hawthorn, Australia which is not like any other residences you’ve seen before. Its uniqueness is in the fact that it was designed to let people see inside which is not usually something one wants. In this case however, studio Clinton Murray Architects and their clients had something else in mind. They actually wanted this to be a home that invites other in. This is a home that creates an entirely new way of living and provides a really special experience.

There were certain limitations that the architects had to deal with when designing this place. One of them was a requirement imposed by the local planning guidelines which stated that the house needed to have a pitched roof. As you can see, this is in no way a traditional pitched roof design but rather a loose and abstract interpretation of that. It’s a sort of folded roof design created in response to the unique geometry of the site which is more or less triangle-shaped.

It’s not just the custom roof design that makes this house stand out but its openness in general. It’s a home that engages with its surroundings in a strange manner but one that suits it and its owners perfectly. The interior is, as expected, bright and open, with big and airy spaces and a shared common area on the first floor. The materials used include wood and concrete which are a staple of contemporary design. They complement each other in a really nice way and they keep the decor very simple but very well balanced at the same time.
