Contemporary House Surrounded By Lush, Tropical Beauty
The Kap House is located in Singapore and was designed with one major goal in mind: to capture and to frame the wonderful natural beauty which surrounds it. The project was completed in 2016 by the team at architecture studio ONG&ONG Pte Ltd.
The house occupies a site which was once the lush and beautiful garden of a colonial bungalow and as such has a tropical vibe, providing a gorgeous backdrop of vibrant natural terrain. In an effort to make the most of this unique context, the architects oriented and designed the house in ways that allow it to frame the views and to take full advantage of the immediate surroundings.
The house is made up of a series of interlocking rectangular volumes dispersed on several different levels. They were each designed in accordance to their function and that gives identity and character to the spaces and allows them to stand out while at the same time blending into the harmonious surroundings. The exterior is defined by stone and timber facades, with timber screens on the upper floor volumes and a large opening for the living areas. Fully retractable glass doors eliminate the physical barrier between the indoor living areas and the outdoor, allowing nature to become an active part of the interior decor. This is true for most of the interior spaces in one way or another.
