Concrete House Surrounded By Foothills And Wild Views

Nestled within the foothills of San Bernardino National Forest in the United States, this residence is a quiet and serene refuge surrounded by wonderful views and a gorgeous landscape. It was built here in 2016 by architecture studio Walker Workshop. the project consisted of a single family residence and a separate pool house complemented by a series of outdoor elements including a large lap pool and a spa. These were built using a simple palette of materials focused around grey plaster and cast in place concrete. They’re organized into several programatic zones and act as independent structures but at the same time remain connected on a deeper level. All the structures are also strongly connected to their surroundings.

The main residence houses the living room, dining area, kitchen, three bedrooms, four bathrooms and a 3-car garage. It also features an indoor-outdoor fireplace which is one of the features that seamlessly connect the indoor spaces to the outdoors. The panoramic views are an important part of the design as a whole and can be admired from all parts of the house. The pool house is positioned on slightly higher ground and is built into the hillside. Its internal spaces open up onto an outdoor living area and the swimming pool. The strong connection between the volumes and the surrounding landscape is emphasized through large windows, sliding glass doors and numerous outdoor functions spread across the site.
