Modern Concrete House At The Top Of A Beautiful Valley In Brazil

The link between architecture and landscape is always a strong one even if not always expressed clearly. Projects such as private houses and residences are especially suggested from this perspective. The JK House is one of the many interesting examples. It was built in the Pato Branco area in Brazil. It was designed by studio Michel Macedo Arquitetos and the whole project was completed in 2017. The site chosen for this had a big slope and overlooked a beautiful valley.

The topography and views greatly influenced the design of the house. Most notably, the architects began the project by building a plateau for the house to stand on. That allowed them to raised and level the ground floor which in turn allowed the social areas to enjoy a direct and panoramic view of the valley. The ground floor also opens onto a big wooden deck and a swimming pool both of which can be viewed from upstairs as well. The wall separating the deck and interior spaces can be opened up completely, eliminating the [physical barrier between the indoor and the outdoor.

The ground floor of the house is where all the social and common areas are situated. It has an open kitchen, a dining area and a living room, with the possibility for these areas to be connected to the outdoors at any given time. A floating staircase with a mesh and see-through railing-wall leads upstairs. This is where the private section of the house is placed. There’s a minimalistic and narrow hallway connecting all the rooms and the same type of exposed concrete ceiling like the one in the living areas.
