A Laid Back Holiday Home Turned Into A Picturesque Retreat
Simple, casual and with a facade that seems to have a lot of history, this holiday home has been remodeled by Eric Lamascus, the founder and CEO of Elite Construction. The company has been remodeling homes since 1999 and its designers are specialized in coming up with innovative home additions meant to improve and transform the whole look. The house has been photographed by Genia Barnes of Barnes Photographics.
Situated outside of Santa Cruz in California, the house is surrounded by beautiful, wild landscape and vegetation. It’s because of this that the designer chose to focus on the views when remodeling the interior.
But perhaps the most charming areas are the outdoor ones. The wooden deck offers the perfect environment from which to admire the surroundings, relax and enjoy the weather.
A pair of white Adirondack chairs are placed around a firepit, oriented towards the vast portion of vegetation that surrounds the house. Potted plants and a small dining set occupy the other portion of the deck.
An outdoor shower complements the entrance that leads into the kitchen. Large, glass-paneled doors connect the indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing them to communicate seamlessly.
Outside on the deck there’s also room for a grill or stove, making this a perfect place for enjoying barbecues and gatherings on sunny days and serene nights.
The interior is surprisingly bright and tranquil. The soft, pastel yellow on the bedroom walls creates a calming ambiance white the wooden floor and ceiling create a symmetrical look. The side table that complements the reading corner is carved out of a trunk, offering the room a natural charm.
The window nook looks like a picturesque tableau, the views being exquisite and truly relaxing. All the trees, the way they bend their branches and embrace each other and all the colors make this a a beautiful oasis.
Turquoise curtains offer the second bedroom a fresh look, contrasting with the pink and coral accents and the other neutral shades used throughout the space.
Sea star shapes and icons create a very casual and relaxed feel in the room, allowing it to become a lovely beach retreat.
The rest of the spaces are simple but not lacking style. The dining room is actually a nook surrounded by windows on two sides, offering beautiful views. It feels intimate and comfortable while remaining connected to the rest of the social spaces.
The kitchen is decorated with shades of white and gray and a hint of turquoise in the form of a subway-tiled backsplash.
The kitchen island is large enough to accommodate large appliances such as the washer and dryer. In front of it is the living or lounge area.
A fireplace warms up the atmosphere, allowing a comfortable and welcoming feel to take over the space. The furniture is simple and minimal.
Large windows and glass walls open the living space to the exterior, letting the views become part of the interior design itself and inviting light in.
A pair of corner shelves show just how simple and charming this place really is. The decorations displayed on them capture the very essence of this holiday home.
A smaller deck at the back of the house accommodates a Jacuzzi tub. It’s an element that’s a bit unexpected, given the contrast with some of the more rustic and shabby chic details we’ve seen so far but, at the same time, it’s a feature that would make any holiday home feel complete.
Tall vegetation and a soft slope hide this deck, offering it privacy and turning it into a secret relaxation spot, a tiny oasis.
